Jaimie riding Derek's horse Suntan

This past weekend we went to Vernal, Utah to visit Dave's Sister and her family. Our nephew Dustin just came home off his mission in Anaheim, California mission. They have a huge horse ranch. They have been so kind as to bord Derek's horse Suntan while Derek is on his mission. As you can tell Jaimie loves horses as much as Derek does. She couldn't wait to ride Suntan!

This is how you gain the trust of a horse. After you are done lunging, you hold out your arms to get it to stop. Then you put the whip down and hold your arms out to him. Suntan came right to Jaimie.

Jaimie is lunging Suntan.

What Dave will do to watch BYU sports

Those of you who know Dave, know that he is a sports NUT. Those of you who don't, well......here is a story of how far he will go to watch them play. Most people who love watching the NCAA tournament have been stopped by the IT department at their work. Meaning they made it so no one can watch any games on there computers by streaming video. Hence that is what happened to Dave.
So, when BYU was scheduled to play at 10:30 AM, that posed a problem for him. Dave is much smarter than I give him credit for. When I went to go eat breakfast, I seen that Dave had left his wallet, blackberry, blue tooth ear piece, and his personal cell phone on the counter. Dave NEVER does this. He is very routine about what he does in the morning. I was worried! I didn't even think about the BYU basket ball game. So I called him and asked if he was okay? Maybe he had a stroke or something??? "No, I just forgot", he said. "I have a meeting in draper at 10:45 so I will come home to get them, before the meeting". I said that I would meet him and take them to him. His reply, "no that's okay, I'll just come and get them". I didn't argue, that was fine by me. Next thing I see is him speeding down the hill and into the drive way and run into the house and flip on the TV, right to the BYU game! He made it just in time for the tip off! I was stunned to say the least. Oh, and the meeting....was changed to 11:45. Half time started at 11:25. I think they went to Iggy's Sports Bar for a so called lunch meeting.
Just so you know, Dave swears he did not do any of this on purpose! Ya right!!! It is just to bad that BYU ended up losing.

What Jaimie learned to make in cooking class!

Jaimie learned to make homemade pizza in her cooking class at school! So she came home and made it for the family. It was very good! She even cleaned up after herself. I don't think she knows what we expect from her now!! No more cold cereal, pancakes, macaroni cheese or canned soup!

YA For 7th grade cooking class!

Fianlly someone else who can cook in the family!

March Madness Begins!

GO UTES! Mountain West Conference Champs!
Okay, so now the game is on at our house! If you didn't already know, Dave and I are total opposites when it comes to college sports. I am the Ute fan and Dave is the BYU fan. So needless to say, we have fun at our house when either teem is playing, but especially when they play each other.

Elder Maughan

I just looked at the calender and realized that Derek only has 8 more months left on his mission!! I can not believe it. Everyone told me how the time flyes by, but I didn't believe them. The first 6 months seemed like forever! He is doing really well. He is currently in Bath, New York. Which he has been there since November. It is the longest place he has sstayed. He was made the district leader about a month ago, which he was really scared about, but I am sure that he is doing a great job. If you would like to email him, his address is; derekscottmaughan@myfamily.com. He would love to hear from you!

This Has Been One of Those Weeks You want to Kill Your Husband!!

I'm sorry that the story did not post. I'm not sure what happened. So, about why I wanted to kill my husband. Well, it is kind of a long story, but I will try to keep it short. Dave has been on this kick lately about cutting costs and finding new ways to save money. Unfortunately I think he has turned into a Democrat, by doing things the socialist way! Sorry if you are a Democrat. Lol!

He decided in December to change our Internet and Cable from Comcast to Qwest. No problem other than we had to change our emails and lost our whole email address book! Then in January he decided that we could save more money if we switched the cable to Direct TV. Not so cool as now we have a lovely dish on the corner of our roof! They are not good during wind storms either. Then he found out we could save a couple of dollars if we had Direct TV billed through Qwest. Well, it seemed easy enough. But some how in the translation, Qwest thought we wanted to cancel everything! So the day Dave and I left for Costa Rica they shut everything off! Phone, Internet, and the dish. It would not have been such a big deal, but we left Jaimie and Dallin home alone. They were not happy with us. They thought that Dave did it on purpose! Which I thought was funny, they didn't know their dad that well. He would never have thought to do that. He had to many games recording while we were gone. So finally I told Dallin to say he was Dave and call Quest. I know that was not a good example to him, but the desperation in his voice was scaring me. So he got it turned back on the day we came home!!!! Yeah for us! Well, the latest cost saving Dave did, was he switched our phones to Vonage. It will save us about $50.00 he said. Well 3 days later our phones were turned off because Qwest turned off our Internet and Vonage goes through the DSL. Okay, now I am really mad. I had work to do on the Internet!!! I told him he had better have it back on by the end of the day. Well Qwest does not work that way!! 3 days later Dave finally phoned a friend that worked at Qwest, and he was able to get it turned back on the next morning. I know it is pretty sad how dependant I have become on all these technical things. It was funny however, when I was really complaining one day, Dallin said, "now you know what we went through for 6 days"! No sympathy there. Well that's the story. I have now band Dave from trying to save money by switching things around like that.
